I’ve been playing around with your hood pattern on the site as well as one I’ve patterned off a jacket hood, I have and fits well.

I think I understand how to build an insulated version but wondering about the best way to attach it the insulated jacket or pull over.

My first thought would be: If you leave the last open seam in the hood the neck seam, then seam it with the shell collar.

You’re on the right track, but don’t think of the hood as a separate entity; the hood goes in just like the regular collar.

For the best fit relax the neckline. The relaxed fit neckline as indicated on the pattern is designed to work well as a hood neckline. You should also stabilize the hood liner to the hood shell.
