Whitney Sleeves?

A couple quick questions about sewing the sleeves onto the Whitney.

1) Where’s the notch? I don’t see one on the pattern. Was it printed in the margin of the pattern that got cut away? Just center the sleeve on the shoulder seam?

2) Which direction to sew? Front to back? Back to front? From the center notch forward and then from the center notch back? Does it matter?

Thanks!

PS: I got it sorted… just used lots of pins.

Glad you got it figured out.

The notch isn’t essential, it just helps to ensure you’ve got the sleeve in the right place in relation to the shoulder seam.  In this case, the seam allowances have all been designated on the pattern, so if you use lots of pins and everything seems to line up, you’ve probably got it right.

The two gotchas for the sleeves are: a) accidentally cutting two left or right sleeves rather than a left and a right and b) making the shoulder seam something less than what’s designated so that the armscye is increased in length by 2 times the deviated amount.  This 2nd error is pretty minor for the sleeve, but also crops up as a problem when you do the collar.
