Minima vest questions

Hi, I’m currently making the minima vest. I have a couple of questions:

1) In “Sew Hang Loop and Collar to Neckline” it says to sew the collar in place. Am I suppose to sew the insulation to the collar piece before I do that? In the photo in “Pin Zipper, Shell, and Liner and Sew” it looks like the insulation has been fastened to the shell, and that the insulation is to be covered by the shell collar piece? (“top stich collar”?) I’m confused

2) I am bit confused about how the finished shoulders are supposed to look. I’ve attached a photo of the upper part of the shell which is how I imagined it was supposed to be done, but when I look at the photo in “Pin Zipper, Shell, and Liner and Sew” it seems to be the other way, with the sewed together edge visible. Have I done it correctly?

Btw, do you have some higher resolution versions of the photos in the instructions?

Hi Thomas,

1) You sewed the insulation to all the liner pieces in an earlier step (“Quilt Insulation to Liner Edges”), so yes the insulation is in place for the collar liner piece.  The hang loop is installed at the same time as the collar because the line of stitching at the liner’s neckline which attaches the liner’s collar goes over the hang loop; i.e. it’s sewn into the seam.  The raw ends of the hang loop end up inside the jacket with all the seams when the item is turned right-side out.

2)  The picture in the instructions shows the shell and liner wrong-side out which is why you can see the shoulder seams.  When you turn the item right-side out, all the seams are on the inside.  Your picture showing the right-side out shell neckline and shoulder seams is correct: no seams are visible.

No, there are no higher resolution pictures, but I’m always looking to improve the instructions.

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve finally finished it now. Will post pictures in a separate thread.
